The COVID-19 pandemic forced many businesses to shut down or drastically change their operations. For one of the leading coffee shop brands in Egypt, the pandemic presented a unique challenge. To keep the business working and growing during the lockdown, they partnered with Robusta to create digital alternatives through a comprehensive software project.

To overcome this challenge, we implemented a comprehensive plan that involved creating an ecommerce store to sell DIY coffee kits and designing and implementing a full contactless instore and curbside ordering experience. The system consisted of a customer-facing web app, a store management dashboard, and a barista tablet app to receive the orders on. We ensured that the system provided an easy-to-use and seamless experience for the customers while being efficient for the baristas.

Background

At the beginning of the lockdown, we sat down with the client and conducted a design sprint to come up with possible solutions. We started by creating an ecommerce store that would sell DIY coffee kits for people to have their quality coffee experience at home. As the lockdown eased, people started going out again but were afraid of human contact. Accordingly, we needed to be agile and find a fast solution to get the stores on the ground working again. We designed and implemented a full contactless instore and curbside ordering experience where customers were able to view the menu, order, pay, and earn loyalty points without having any direct human contact except for getting the order itself from the counter.

Conclusion
